Or did he? Was it actually P.T. Barnum who said that? Some claim it was W.C. Fields. Surprisingly, those words first appeared in print in an 1885 biography of a confidence man known as Hungry Joe. Barnum, by the way, never denied uttering those words. Regardless of who said them, the reasoning behind them is simple: A person is born every minute who will eventually be gullible enough to pay good money for something that has little or no real value.
